PIMBs Briefing – Winter 2021

18th January 2021

Welcome to the Winter 2021 edition of our briefing for Professional Institutes and Membership Bodies (PIMBs).

As we finally say goodbye to 2020, undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary years in recent history, it’s important to recognise and reflect not only on the tough challenges faced worldwide by individuals and organisations, but also the mass scale versatility and impressive achievement demonstrated in response; it’s safe to say we all welcome 2021 to bring with it more stability.

In this issue of the PIMBs Briefing, we explore some of the potential opportunities and challenges faced by the sector. My thanks to those who contributed articles and insights to this publication.

First up, our Head of PIMBs, Kathryn Burton, has provided her view from the sector. Jeremy Beard, Managing Partner, shares how haysmacintyre engaged our team and community through lockdown.

We look at how the pandemic has impacted the recruitment of leadership, where David Sneesby from The LSL Group sets out five emerging game changers.

We reflect on the impact the pandemic has had on the PIMBs sector, particularly on events, digital products, and pricing structures, as well as how remote working has impacted the delivery of audits.

Whilst remote working has become familiar for many, having been doing so since March 2020 in full or part, we look at important considerations in carrying out internal preparations in advance of a remote audit.

Furthermore, Donal Watkin from ACO highlights the considerations and benefits of establishing a benevolent fund for your members.

We look at considerations in setting your reserves policy and managing your reserves, whilst Robert Pitts from PARN reflects on the survey results about reserves following the pandemic.

The pandemic has presented many challenges, potentially inhibiting governance procedures from being carried out in their usual way or by their usual deadline. Siobhan Holmes looks at key considerations to ensure that suitable governance is maintained during such a difficult time.

Finally, Emma Gabe explores some sector insights from the tax department.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss any of the topics raised in this edition, please feel free to get in touch.
