International Charities

International charities face unique challenges that are as diverse as the many countries they work with. We work with a wide range of organisations, including those working through overseas branches and major international grant makers, and our international charities team are experts in the nuances of international aid, grant-making, and co-ordination of global audits and the VAT and direct tax considerations when working internationally. We are one of only a small number of firms in the UK who are certified to complete USAID grant audits, and we have an extensive understanding of the requirements and needs for a variety of challenges and regulations governing international charities.

Why haysmacintyre?

The international charities sector has recently faced uncertain times. The need addressed by many charities remains great. At the same time, the operating environment faced by international charities is challenging and the funding landscape is difficult. International Charity Financial Benchmarking Report 2022

We are proud to introduce our fifth annual benchmarking report on international charities based in the UK. The sector and our associated reports over the last two years have been hugely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. As we transition from these unprecedented times, we note common themes to consider which are explored in this report.

Auditing a large UK international charity

We are the auditors of a large UK international charity where it is not possible to rely on local auditors. This is because local auditors are only appointed where there is a statutory requirement to have local audits, meaning that most jurisdictions do not have local audits. Our approach starts with a detailed understanding of […]

Questions to ask… International Charities

Charities operating internationally face a variety of challenges which may include working through partners, operating overseas branches or subsidiaries, and managing grant and contract income. We have set out a number of key questions to ask in these areas and how best to use the annual report as an opportunity to convey key messages. These […]

International

Whether you are looking to expand your business into new territories outside of the UK, your charity has an international remit, or you are a non-domicile seeking support with your UK tax and compliance affairs, haysmacintyre has an exceptional track record of advising clients on cross border accounting and tax matters. Our highly regarded team […]

The value we receive from haysmacintyre as our auditor is outstanding. As a specialist NGO, we consult with them throughout the year. This includes on subjects such as how to budget for funding applications, presentation of accounts, management information and allocation of funds. They advise, challenge and combine the right balance of technical expertise and sector knowledge. We were looking for deep insights and practical advice how we could actually implement to benefit our international charity. Often those two inputs aren’t combined within the same adviser, but they are with haysmacintyre.
