Simon Wilks
Partner, Co-Head of Financial Services
Simon joined us as a trainee in 1987 and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1990. He became a Partner in 1996 and was a member of haysmacintyre’s management from 2001 until 2013, the latter six years as Managing Partner. Simon’s involvement in management, means he offers strong commercial expertise when advising his clients.
Simon advises a wide range of clients including entrepreneurial businesses, long-established international groups as well as membership organisations. This advice is given to the owners of these businesses, often high net worth individuals, as well as to the businesses themselves.
In recent years he has specialised in two sectors, financial services and membership organisations.
He started advising fund managers in 1998 and since then he has acted for over 150, helping them with the set-up of the business, financial management and taxation matters. In addition to fund managers, he also acts for corporate finance boutiques, research houses and other financial services entities.
Recently Simon has worked closely with Neil Simpson advising financial services clients on the change in the taxation of partnerships to ensure that our clients operate in the most tax efficient manner. Along with Bernadette King, Head of Financial Services, Simon has established us as a key player in the sector.
Simon also acts for over 20 membership organisations, including trade associations and private members clubs. He prepares detailed benchmarking analysis reports, providing commentary and insight to participants individually and to the wider group in an annual seminar.
He enjoys acting for fast growth technology companies and the owners of those businesses, assisting many of them from start-up throughout the business cycle to exit. After exit, Simon continues to act for those high net worth individuals assisting them with their financial and taxation affairs.
Simon also has recent experience of reporting accountants work for listed companies, particularly those quoted on AIM.
Outside of work and family life, Simon enjoys watching most sports and participating in some as well. He also has a keen interest in London life, particularly in restaurants, music and theatre.
