Care & Community

The care & community sector is a key specialism for haysmacintyre, and we have experience and knowledge not only of the issues, risks and challenges facing the sector from a financial perspective, but also of the regulatory regime in which organisations operate.

Why haysmacintyre?

The care sector in particular has seen very different challenges but continues to operate and provide care in very difficult circumstances.

Our sector specialism means that we work with a wide variety of care providers, hospices, almshouses and other care-related organisations. We are experienced in advising organisations facing the challenges in the sector including funding pressures, employment tax, and the stringent regulatory environment.

We have a full suite of audit, tax and advisory services as well as a personalised, partner-led approach that assures management and trustees that your organisation will not only benefit from a robust audit, but also advice on best practice.

The services that our clients deliver include care providers, provision of housing for the homeless, hospice services, debt management services, re-employment services, careers guidance, support to those that are vulnerable in society, including acting as an advocate for those individuals, as well as those involved in research. A large proportion of charities that deliver social care are funded through local authority or other grant funding arrangements, and we have a wide variety of clients that are funded in this way.

We are active thought leaders in the sector, contributing insights and publications quarterly and also speaking at events held at our offices or at major sector events annually. We delivered our first Hospice and Care Benchmarking Survey in 2014, with the aim to share best practice in the sector and enable management and trustees to assess their own structure, governance and monitoring procedures against other comparable charities. Our most recent edition was produced in 2020 with specialist solicitors at Hempsons to reflect changes in best practice and the issues facing charity boards.

We also work closely with Hospice UK to create their annual benchmarking reports, and we co-sponsor the Hospice Annual Report, the latest version of which was published in January 2021 which is available adjacent.

COVID-19

Please visit our dedicated page on the range of financial, tax and accounting measures being introduced to combat COVID-19 together with our related thoughts/insights on helping businesses.

We switched to haysmacintyre from a larger audit firm and saw a complete transformation in the service we received and our audit fee. The partner and staff have taken the time to get to know us as a business and understand our sector and our role within it. The audit runs smoothly and issues are quickly dealt with as they arise and their suggestions are always practicable. Throughout the year, I always know I can pick up the phone and get a response to my questions and someone will pop out for a chat if need be. The fees have been agreed to in advance and have been kept to – which is a very refreshing change from our larger firm experience – and I feel confident that if we did need a significant amount of extra work, it would all be agreed up front. The best thing I have found about haysmacintyre is that all their staff are delightful to work with – even the VAT manager made our VAT review an engaging experience!
